Our Vision: Unity in Diversity PDF Print E-mail

We aim to be a place and people of welcome and nurture to all.

We celebrate the breadth of tradition and practice in our worship.

We aim to do this through:

1 Our Worship

  • to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ
  • to be centred on the Eucharist and sacraments, expressing a sense of reverence and awe
  • to aim for high standards in liturgy and music
  • to be flexible, creative and innovative in exploring other expressions of worship
  • to aim to see growth in our depth of worship, our response to God and in numbers

2 Spiritual Growth

  • to encourage individuals and the church community, through worship, teaching and opportunities for retreat and refreshment
  • to encourage lay ministry, discovering and exercising the gifts and abilities of all

3 Pastoral Care

  • to value, nurture and support each Church member where they are
  • to develop lay involvement in pastoral care of the congregation and, in the longer term, to develop and equip people to offer a wider ministry in the community

4 Being Outward-Looking

  • to be a witness to the love of God in the practical outworking of our faith with those around us
  • to make St James’ better known locally
  • to maximize the use of our facilities by local people
  • to build bridges with all those who live or work in our parish, particularly seeking to serve those in need, and to be alert to the work of the Holy Spirit outside the boundaries of the church
  • to work more closely with neighbouring parishes and Christian communities

5 Work with Children, Young People and their Families

  • to be responsive to the needs of children and young people
  • to strengthen our existing work with children, young people and their families
  • to explore other ways of meeting their needs through joint working with other churches

The PCC has adopted an action plan to enable us to achieve these aims. You can download it as a pdf here.
